Michael Jones - Tuesday, November 04 In fairness to the hat, I did not wear it as much as I could have. I'm not nearly as tall or as animated as Howard but I am just about as shy as he is. US MD: Column: Legalizing Drugs: The Money Argument
Baltimore Sun, 02 Dec 2008 - Friday marks 75 years since repeal of the Volstead Act, which made the manufacture, distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages illegal in the United States. As the anniversary of the end of Prohibition approaches, modern advocates of a similar repeal are calling again for the decriminalization of heroin, cocaine and marijuana - and this time they've come packing a money argument by a Harvard economist. I like money arguments. They are usually a lot more effective than emotional ones or those that exploit stubborn prejudices with the intent of maintaining the status quo. CN BC: Column: Illicit Drugs Should Be Legal, Officer Says Victoria Times-Colonist, 28 Nov 2008 - David Bratzer and I share at least one opinion in common: That it costs us a pointless fortune to maintain the charade of having effective drug laws in Canada. It's no big deal that I hold that opinion. Anyone who knows the kind of things I write about wouldn't be too surprised to discover I'm of the belief that Canada and the U.S. have made a complete hash of things by treating a health and social issue like a criminal matter. Canada: Budding Wealth in the Weed Edmonton Journal, 23 Nov 2008 - With the Courts Striking Down the Federal Government's Monopoly on Supplying Medical Marijuana, Private Growers Are Bullish on Pot's Commercial Potential Eric Nash can barely contain his excitement waiting to hear from Health Canada whether he can start growing marijuana for 250 patients now that the Federal Court of Appeal has struck down the government's monopoly on supplying medical marijuana. US: Edu: SSDP Hosts International Drug Policy Conference The Diamondback, 20 Nov 2008 - Smokers and tokers will get together and try to surprise Congress this weekend by showing up on Capitol Hill in suits and ties to fight for drug policy reform. Today kicks off the 10th annual international Students for a Sensible Drug Policy conference, meaning hundreds of students, alumni and drug policy reformers will swarm the campus as student grassroots organizations from across the country and the world host workshops on lobbying and advocacy and travel to Washington to speak with congressmen.
