We've all read or heard the story of the Good Samaritan. The Big Lesson here is to "love your neighbor as you love yourself." The story is actually told by Jesus to a lawyer who wondered, "Who is my neighbor?" And instead of just simply answering the lawyer, Jesus answered with a story. Now, there's something to keep in mind when reading this. And I think a lot of us may have missed this point in Sunday school class. Jesus made the story up to make it easier for the lawyer to understand. Jesus did that a lot. Made up stories, I mean. He was a great teacher. Anyway, because Jesus made the story up, we can really see what Jesus would have done in the same situation. Here's the story...(Luke 10: 30-37) A man gets jumped by thieves, robbed, beaten, and left for dead by the side of the road. A priest rides by and moves to the other side of the road to avoid the man. Then another guy passes by, again moving to the other side of the road. A third guy had compassion and stopped to help the man. Now comes the part that most of us missed.... "Jesus" bound up the man's wounds, pouring in oil and wine. Hmmm...Why would he do that? Well, now that we know the antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, etc., etc., effects of the Holy Oil, why wouldn't he? Have you been anointed today? |
