Everything you think you know about marijuana is about to change. Marijuana is not the evil devil weed that we have been led to believe it to be. Even more than that, this plant is going to save the world.

Marijuana is actually a slang term for cannabis. Cannabis has been used medicinally and spiritually since the beginning of recorded time. Do you remember the Ice Man that was found a few years ago? He had cannabis in his pocket.

In fact, until the early 20^th century, doctors all over America used cannabis as medicine. The healing properties of this herb were well-known. What was also well-known is that this herb never caused any harm to anyone who ever used it. The American Medical Association was against the prohibition laws because they stood to lose the best medicine in their arsenal. 

Cannabis flowers can be made into brownies, cookies, or muffins and eaten. There are many differing opinions on the smoking of cannabis, but recent long-term studies have been shown that cannabis smoking does not cause cancer and in fact, acts as a protective agent for those who smoke tobacco.

Even the fear about driving while impaired is unfounded. Cannabis users have proven to be better at paying attention while driving and actually drive slower than the more agressive alcohol drinker.

12 states have enacted laws protecting qualified medical patients from being prosecuted for cannabis possession, while allowing those patients who prefer to grow their own the ability to do so. We have seen that the federal government doesn’t care what the states’ laws say. These sick people are still being arrested and put into prison. There was just another arrest last month in New Mexico.

And while the politicians spout retoric about how, "We must protect the children from the scourge of drugs blah blah blah," we are letting our sickest people suffer needlessly.

Did you know that there were over 400,000 kids arrested for pot last year? Think of the number that didn't get caught. Now tell me that the Drug War is keeping our kids from having access. Its a failure. period. 

And did you also know that the federal government has a program where they give cannabis to selected medical patients? It’s true. One of those patients is Irv Rosenthal. He testified on behalf of the medical marijuana initiative in Michigan.

My question is this….If some people can use cannabis with federal approval, even being supplied their cannabis by the government, why can’t all people who are suffering use it?

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) explains how the drug war is not helping, but actually harming people in this country. The United States has only 5% of the world’s population, but we have 25% of the world’s prison inmates. We are incarcerating our own people more that any other country in the world.

THEN, we learned about hemp, marijuana's cousin, and how this plant can literally save the world.
 

Hemp can be grown very quickly without pesticides or fertilizer.

Hemp’s uses include:
 

Food – the hemp seed is the most nutritious food on Earth (we can end world hunger!)
 

Shelter – The fibers of the hemp plant make a very strong brick that is lightweight and well-insulated, makes excellent paper, and has a short growing season (we can stop cutting down trees!)
 

Clothing – hemp does not rob the soil of its nutrients the way cotton does. (we can restore our farmland!) And it needs no pesticides or fertilizers (we can stop poisoning our rivers and streams!) Hemp clothing is naturally fire retardant (we can stop spraying our children's clothing with chemicals!)
 

Plastic – Australia has the tecnology to use hemp to make biodegradable plastic (we can save the planet!)
 

Fuel – Diesel made from hemp is clean-burning. (we can bring our boys home from the Middle East!) (we can stop blowing up The Appalachian Mountains for the coal underneath!)

Knowing all these facts, how could we, The Green Earth Ministries, not do what we are doing?  We do it out of LOVE for our fellow man!
 

Sick people have been begging for relief. The government says that good health is not a right, it’s a privilege. The states are trying to help their people, but the feds keep arresting them, despite what the state law says. 
 

In a Democracy, the government is meant to be ruled from the bottom up. Not from the top down. The federal government does not have the power (and never should!) to dictate to people what they can or cannot do in their own homes if it is not causing harm to anyone else. 
 

I know you may think that the government is just trying to protect the citizens, but unfortunately you would be mistaken. The people who really need protecting need protection from the government.

And since the medical argument is still losing, it’s time for the Church to step in and take care of the sick. That’s where we come in. You may think that we are only doing this for ourselves, but in reality our case could open the door to getting medicine to sick people who need it.
