Question:

If pot and other drugs are made legal and people start making/growing their own stuff what will happen to the dealers and importers? Are they going to sit by quietly as people start to create their own flavors and add competition to new growing market? Will people try to remove competition to keep their product and importers happy?

Answer:

The Cannabis market is incredibly decentralized.

There is no Pablo Escobar of weed.

No one person has a handle on the market, there is no kingpin with a monopoly.

Most weed used in the US is grown in the US, and a lot of that is done in small grows by amateur (and sometimes professional too!) growers who experiment and tinker with new strains and hybrids.

There is no giant weed distribution network run by one gang that's going to lose a monopoly if marijuana were legalized. Granted, there are plenty of gangs and organized crime networks that do grow and sell massive quantities of weed to finance other morally despicable deeds.

But they do not, in any sense, run a marijuana monopoly.

Legalization would deprive them of crucial funding, which is a good thing.

Weed is just too easy to grow to get a monopoly (unlike tobacco, which is very hard to grow).
