Well, today's breaking story definitely sheds light on a rather large can of worms that I may have opened recently. The news is out now. In fact, it made the headlines tonight on our local Fox affiliate, WALA Channel 10. It is true that a little over three months ago Brenda and I had a run in with the law. It was just before our wedding, a month in fact. The evidence was clear. We had been growing some herbs in our garden out back. This would not be such a big deal for most, but in this particular case the herb being questioned is the cannibis sativa plant, more commonly known as 'pot' or 'marijuana'. Now I know that many folks around these days are still a bit jaded when they even hear the mention of pot or marijuana. In fact, I was one of those people many years ago. I was one of those hard-line conservative types that listened to everything that those in authority told me. My mother raised me to be a good Catholic boy and to have respect for others, so that's what I did. But the other thing that she always taught me was to be open minded and to trust in the Lord. I can get back to that later. My new wife Brenda and I are currently being charged by the State of Alabama for Trafficking in cannibis which is a Class A Felony and according to Alabama State Code can result in us being iimprisoned for up to 10 years and fined $50,000 if convicted. Now that's a pretty big can of worms isn't it. There certainly are many varying opinions on the subject of cannibis laws here in the United States. The fact is, much progress has been made over the past few years in a number of states throughout the country. Now I was born and raised in the big city of Miami, Florida, but I happen to love the great state of Alabama. My father is from Birmingham, and I attended and graduated from The University of Alabama. Out of respect for myself and my parents, I didn't even attempt to try cannabis until I was 18 years old and away from home acting as a free thinking adult. Now the rest of this story and more on my beliefs will eventually be disclosed through this venue and no doubt through other media sources. I will do my best to collect and maintain this information here on The Green Earth Ministries site. I sincerely hope that those who take the time to come over to our website will browse around through our site and see that my wife Brenda and I are truly altruistic people who have nothing but love and hope to share with others. We are certainly NOT drug traffickers. Here is the cold hard truth... I planted some seeds that God put on our green earth. I added water and provided sunlight and cared for them just like all the other vegetables and flowers that we plant every year. We water and fertilize using our well water and an organic fertilizer mix. The rest was just nature doing its thing. We have had really great results in our garden this year. In fact we had watermelons in excess of 35lbs! It just so happens that we also ended up with one of our cannabis plants reaching stellar size. According to Alabama law, if a person sells, manufactures, delivers, or brings into this state, or who is knowingly in actual possession of in excess of 2.2 pounds of cannabis is guilty of a felony, which felony shall be known as "trafficking in cannabis." For the record... there was no selling. we were not delivering any anywhere, and I didn't manufacture anything. Everything that we grow in our garden is for our own personal use and consumption. |
